Central and Southern Virginia

  • The Virginia Guesthouse opened on the University of Virginia’s Ivy Corridor in April 2026, welcoming visitors with 214 guest rooms and suites, more than 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and three new dining concepts, including Poplar restaurant and The Perch rooftop bar. The university-owned hotel and conference center offers a modern stay just steps from UVA’s historic Grounds.
  • The Birdwood Mansion, located on the grounds of the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, officially opened its doors in June 2026. The historic property features four accommodations in the mansion, three adjacent cottages, and a culinary program that brings in some of the most experienced creative chefs from around the world to create seasonal, international tasting menus for the Birdwood Mansion’s dining room.
  • A luxury wildlife retreat opened in Halifax County in May 2026. A stay at Wilde Manor includes unforgettable encounters with wildlife and elegant suites. Experiences include giraffe feeding adventures and a penguin meet and greet.
  • Expected to open in early 2027, The Rook at South Boston will transform the historic John Randolph Hotel into a boutique luxury property as part of Choice Hotels’ Ascend Collection. The reimagined hotel will bring upscale accommodations and renewed energy to downtown South Boston while preserving one of the community’s most recognizable historic landmarks.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott Glen Allen Richmond debuted in May 2026. Located next door to the Henrico Sports & Entertainment Authority, this modern extended-stay hotel offers spacious, thoughtfully appointed suites with fully equipped kitchens, flexible workspaces, and separate living areas. Another Shamin Hotels property, Home2 Suites by Hilton, is expected to open nearby later this year.
  • Expected to open in 2027, Shenandoah Mansions will bring 73 boutique guest rooms to Richmond’s Fan District, becoming the neighborhood’s first boutique hotel. Housed in a restored six-story historic apartment building, the property will blend Richmond-inspired design, locally influenced dining and cocktail concepts, and sweeping views of one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
  • The Laurel Hotel opened in February 2026 in Danville’s historic Schoolfield District. The 36-room boutique hotel transformed the former 1903 Dan River Mills executive office building into upscale accommodations, preserving many of the structure’s original architectural details.
  • The LivAway Suites hotel, an extended‑stay property offering suite‑style rooms with in‑room kitchens, is under construction in Hopewell, VA, and is expected to open in late 2026.
  • Get ready for a luxury glamping escape in fall 2026 at Camp Yellow Cardinal, located just thirty minutes outside Richmond in Prince Edward County. Named for the lucky bird known for occasional sightings in the American South, Camp Yellow Cardinal will feature geodesic dome campsites with hot tubs, king-size beds, and fire pits.

Coastal Virginia – Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roads, Eastern Shore

  • The Sitio, a new lodging option in Virginia Beach’s Atlantic Park development, opened in March 2026. The contemporary coastal hotel has 20 rooms, an elevated pool and deck with lagoon views, and concierge surf experiences sure to please first timers and longtime surfers alike.
  • StayApt Suites added an apartment-style hotel to the Coliseum area of Hampton in August 2026. The extended-stay hotel has 103 suites with full-size kitchens and appliances.

Northern Virginia

  • Formerly Hotel AKA Alexandria, The Satire joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection in June 2026, introducing new branding, Marriott Bonvoy benefits, and reimagined dining concepts in Old Town North. The luxury hotel also features updated amenities, including a fitness center, movie theater, and meeting space.
  • Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center unveiled a $13 million transformation in May 2026, featuring 300 redesigned, fashion-inspired guest rooms.
  • The Westin Crystal City unveiled a major renovation of its guest rooms, lobby, event spaces, and public areas in May 2026. The hotel is also preparing to debut Stillwater & Stone, a new restaurant and bar featuring a land-and-sea-inspired menu, craft cocktails, and an updated dining experience.

Shenandoah Valley

  • In July 2026, Stable Craft Brewing & Cidery opened The Lofts, a collection of five boutique hotel-style suites located above its working brewery at Hermitage Hill Farm in Waynesboro. The new accommodations debut as the family-owned brewery celebrates its 10th anniversary and the farm marks 20 years of operation.
  • Lexington welcomed a new Residence Inn by Marriott in spring 2026 featuring 104 rooms, a fitness center, and a meeting event space.

Virginia Mountains

  • Hampton Inn & Suites is currently under construction in Bedford County and is slated to open early 2027. It’s located between the Bedford Area Welcome Center and the National D-Day Memorial.
  • Extended Stay America Premier Suites is opening as Vinton’s first major hotel in late 2026. Construction for the new hotel began in August 2025 at the intersection of W. Virginia Ave, S. Pollard St. and Cedar Ave.

Southwest Virginia – Blue Ridge Highlands and Heart of Appalachia

  • The historic Inn at Wise is undergoing more than $1 million in renovations under new ownership, with upgrades to guest rooms, new flooring, and the reopening of its on-site restaurant expected to be completed in late 2026.
