What’s New – Where to Stay in Virginia 2024

Central and Southern Virginia

  • Shenandoah Mansions will be the first boutique hotel in Richmond’s Fan neighborhood, opening Fall 2024. The 73-room hotel, the latest from New York City-based hotelier Ash, will feature a retail space and the third location of Ash–Bar, an all-day dining concept and European cafe.
  • The Little Mod Hotel in Charlottesville opened in October 2023, steps away from the University of Virginia grounds. A mid-century modern building dating back to the 1960s, this hotel includes 20 brightly decorated rooms and apartment-style suites with vintage touches. The Mod Pod, an onsite converted airstream, serves up all-day breakfast, tasty tacos and delicious savory waffle cones.
  • Caesars Virginia, a premier destination resort casino, is coming to Danville in 2024. Property plans include a 500-room hotel and a world-class casino gaming floor with over 1,300 slots, 85 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a WSOP poker room and a Caesars Sportsbook. In addition, the resort will feature a full-service spa, pool, high-quality bars and restaurants, a 2,500-seat state-of-the-art live entertainment theater and 40,000 square feet of meeting and convention space.
  • The Holbrook Hotel opened November 2023 in a former doctor’s office on Danville’s Main and Holbrook streets. The property offers 45 luxury suites with kitchenettes and a mid-century aesthetic.
  • The Schoolfield Hotel is a 35-room boutique property coming to Danville’s Schoolfield district in late 2024.
  • Nestled in the center of Historic Old Towne Petersburg, the re-imagined Hotel Petersburg will open its doors in Summer 2024. A century in the making, the upscale boutique hotel will include 68 sleeping rooms with a restaurant, rooftop bar, and outdoor courtyard.

Coastal Virginia – Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roads, Eastern Shore

  • Sun Outdoors Chincoteague Bay opened in Fall 2023. This new RV resort and campground is located directly on Chincoteague Bay and includes 145 RV sites, 38 cottages and 28 glamping tents. Amenities include private fishing piers, a boardwalk promenade and a zero-entry swimming pool.
  • Home2 Suites by Hilton Virginia Beach Tidewater will open in Virginia Beach in 2024.

Northern Virginia

  • Slated to open in the heart of Old Town Alexandria in May 2024, Hotel Heron is Aparium Hotel Group’s flagship adaptive-reuse development, located steps from the bustling King Street mile. Originally occupied from 1926 to 1971 by the George Mason Hotel, the new space includes 134 guest rooms and 30,000 square feet of hotel amenities, including a hearth-inspired restaurant offering Mid-Atlantic cuisine, a cozy cocktail bar, and a seasonal rooftop bar, as well as meeting space and ground floor retail.
  • The Airlie Hotel in Warrenton is launching Topgolf Swing Suite in late December 2023. Topgolf Swing Suite is an immersive social experience offering guests a comfy lounge, a massive screen, and a selection of exciting virtual games, making the experience fun for golfers and non-golfers alike. Airlie is completing a barn renovation at the end of 2024, blending rustic charm with modern comfort to create a charming new overnight option for guests. Airlie proudly marks its 125th anniversary in 2024, a significant milestone that will be celebrated throughout the year.
  • Opening in downtown Fredericksburg in Spring 2024, The Publisher, a 98-room full service hotel that stands on the site of the once daily Fredericksburg newspaper, the Free-Lance Star, will feature meeting/event space, a full bar and restaurant, and many other amenities. 
  • A Residence Inn by Mariott Reston and AC Hotel by Mariott Reston will be coming to Fairfax near Dulles Airport in 2024.

Shenandoah Valley and Virginia Mountains

  • The 21-room South Roanoke Boutique Hotel is a new boutique hotel opening in Historic District of Roanoke in 2024.
  • Getaway Shenandoah North in Basye opened late 2023 with 42 cabins on 47 private acres.  Nestled along the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the secluded Outpost in Basye, is surrounded by old-growth forests, scenic nature trails, and the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia — all just 2 hours from Washington, DC.
  • In Fall 2023, Love Ridge Mountain Lodging completed renovations on 12 cabins and the 3,000 square foot oval gathering lawn. In Summer 2024, the original 2,000 square foot lodge will reopen as a versatile event space designed to be customizable for a variety of uses from wedding receptions to business meetings. At 2,800 feet overlooking Love, Virginia, Love Ridge offers vacation cabins and houses in a unique location, bordering the Blue Ridge Parkway just past milepost 16.
  • The George Washington a Wyndham Grand Hotel on Winchester’s Downtown Mall is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024. The hotel’s 100th Anniversary Concert Series includes Pop/Rock band Orleans on April 6 and Firefall on October 19, with more events planned.
  • The Grand Dame of Staunton, Hotel 24 South, is turning 100 years old in 2024 and is offering celebratory rates starting at $100 for mid-week stays.

Southwest Virginia – Blue Ridge Highlands, Heart of Appalachia

  • With a projected opening in Summer 2024, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol will feature a 300-room hotel, five restaurants, four bars and lounges, new entertainment options, wedding and convention facilities, top-notch retailers, and an indoor and outdoor concert venue that will further solidify Bristol as the true “Birthplace of Country Music.” The casino will feature 1,500 slots, 55 tables, and a sportsbook.
  • Mountain Lake Lodge in Pembroke features a new ice-skating rink open through March 2024, and the beloved Sauerkraut Band playing four engagements in January. As the host filming site for Dirty Dancing, the Lodge will feature seven Dirty Dancing Weekends in 2024, plus the first-ever Valentine’s Day Dirty Dancing kickoff. Guests step Into Johnny and Baby’s dancing shoes and visit authentic film locations from the movie, such as Kellerman’s Mountain House, Baby’s Cabin, and the exact spot where the infamous “Lift” occurred. The special movie themed weekends also include themed activities, professional dance lessons, dance parties, and more.
  • Primland Resort, Auberge Resorts Collection will undergo an enhancement in early 2024, to include a new look in the Main Lodge, a new check-in and arrival experience for guests, and two new culinary concepts in the spaces currently known as 19th Pub and Elements. The enhancement is led by Dallas-based Chad Dorsey Design. Over Memorial Day weekend 2024, Primland Resort will also host its First Annual Highland Golf + Wine Classic, with rounds of play on the award-winning Highland Course, intimate dinners across the property featuring renowned vintners, and more.
  • The Arty Lee Campground opened in October 2023 in Dante. This campground offers direct access to the Town of St. Paul by ATV trails and has both RV and primitive camping options with a bathhouse, observation deck, electrical hook-up, Wi-Fi, and more.
  • The Traveler, a new lodging option in the town of Tazewell, is under development by Back of the Dragon. Coming online in 2024.
