Central and Southern Virginia
- Fallen Tree Vineyard opened in Crozet in October 2024. With 180-degree mountain and valley views, the estate operates in the heart of Central Virginia. Its namesake is inspired by a great maple tree on the property that was mistakenly cut down during the vineyard installation.
- Hark Vineyards is debuting a new tasting room in spring 2025, expanding its vineyard to accommodate more guests. Their 80-acre estate focuses on small-batch wines that encapsulate Virginia’s terroir.
- The Virginia Wine Collective tasting room is expected to open in Charlottesville in May 2025. The Virginia Wine Collective will include seven winemaker studios off the main production area, as well as a winemaker incubator for seed stage projects. The Virginia Wine Collective has been designed to help reduce the costs associated with independent winemaking and support further innovation and talent in the Monticello AVA. Visitors will be able to sample wines in the tasting room from all participating winemakers and daily production tours will also be offered.
- Ripple Ray’s, a Grateful Dead-themed restaurant, opened in January 2025 in Richmond’s Carytown. The new bar and restaurant features Southern cuisine, “hippie hour” specials, and live music.
- Goldwing opened in Richmond in October 2024. Indulge in sips, snacks, and sweets while enjoying live jazz music in this new venue in Scott’s Addition. Alcohol-free cocktails are also available.
- The owners of popular Richmond seafood market Yellow Umbrella Provisions are opening their first restaurant, Slack Tide Fish Co. at the Ballast redevelopment property in Scott’s Addition. The highly-anticipated global coastal restaurant and raw bar is expected to open in early 2025.
- Brazen will open on Cary St. in Richmond’s Fan District in early 2025. The restaurant’s menu will feature braised dishes that are cooked slowly, typically over hours. The name, Brazen, is inspired by a play on the word for the cooking technique, as well as the brazen move for the owners to open their first restaurant together.
- Cat and coffee lovers, get ready. Purrfect Bean, Richmond’s newest cat-cafe, is coming to the Fan District in April 2025. The cafe plans to serve local coffee and tea, and it will partner with a local animal shelter to bring adoptable cats to the cozy cafe space.
- 7 Lady Vineyards on the grounds of sprawling Dover Hall in Goochland is opening a new tasting room and waterside event space. The 3,500-square-foot tasting room will feature a terrace and an in-house gourmet shop, and will serve 7 Lady’s portfolio of more than two dozen wines. Plans are also underway for a 2,000-square-foot pavilion facing the on-site pond, which will be enhanced with a lighted water fountain, fire pits, and gazebos.
- The Fishin’ Pig, a popular Farmville restaurant serving Memphis-style barbeque and seafood, is opening a new location in the Innsbrook Shoppes in Glen Allen. The Richmond-area location will be The Fishin’ Pig’s fourth, joining its other spots in Farmville, Waynesboro, and Norfolk, with an expected opening in early 2025.
- Torch Kitchen + Bar is an upscale American restaurant coming to Midlothian in early 2025. The restaurant offers a modern twist on traditional favorites, blending the familiar with the unexpected, ensuring every dish and drink is a celebration of taste.
Northern Virginia
- Ebbitt House, the first ever expansion of Washington, DC’s world famous Old Ebbitt Grill, is coming to Reston Station in 2025. Ebbitt House will feature a 300-seat indoor dining experience with two bars, along with 125 outdoor seats and a patio bar. The menu will include curated offerings of the American classics for which Old Ebbitt Grill is known.
- Electric Bull Steakhouse is a boutique South American steakhouse by famed Chef Victor Albisu coming to Vienna in summer 2025.
- Set to open in late spring 2025 in Hillsboro, Local Lion is the newest brewery on Loudoun’s booming LoCo Ale Trail. The 26-acre farm brewery is named for two African lions, once part of a privately owned game park on a neighboring farm, that are buried on the property. The two-story tasting room will seat 90 guests and offer a rotating seasonal mix of 10 beers, wine, cider, seltzer, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Coastal Virginia – Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roads, Eastern Shore
- Sojourn Fermentory, a new brewery and cidery with an outdoor beer garden, opened in October in Suffolk and features European-style lagers, ciders, American ales, and 72-hour fermented Roman-style pizzas and small plates.
- The recently-opened 2D Cafe & Eatery in Virginia Beach isn’t your typical coffee shop; in addition to great food and coffee, the cafe is designed to look two-dimensional, with white and black furniture and walls. The unique concept and stark contrast make the colors of the food pop even more, making for an Instagrammable moment.
- The Silos Bar opened in November 2024 in Suffolk. This bar and event venue utilizes three former grain silos as its structure and features an arcade and rooftop bar.
- Chef’s Market, a 17,000 sq. ft. food hall featuring a grilled cheese bar, brewery, taco bar, distillery, and more opened in October 2024 in Newport News. With shops offering fresh meats, seafood, wine, and baked goods—plus duckpin bowling and arcade games— it’s the ultimate spot for flavor and fun.
- Hampton Roads now has a third location for Redwood Smoke Shack. The texas-style barbecue chain has locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, with a Suffolk location that just opened in the former Bennett’s Creek Farm Market in late January. The restaurant features wood-smoked meats such as prime brisket, house-made sausage, and pork butt.
Shenandoah Valley and Virginia Mountains
- The newly launched Harrisonburg Coffee Trail features 11 independent coffee shops in the Friendly City. Coffee lovers can download a “passport” and visit at least six coffee shops to redeem a free coffee mug.
- Chilly Hollow Brewing Company opened in December 2024 in Berryville, VA. It is Clarke County’s second brewery and also a working farm, featuring grass-fed, locally processed beef and expansive mountain views on 100 acres. Cuts are available for purchase at the taproom.
- A late-night comfort food hot spot, Show Pony is set to open in Roanoke’s Historic Grandin Village in early 2025.
- A Few Old Goats Brewing opened its second location in Buchanan in November 2024. With its original brewery in Roanoke, the owners chose Buchanan for their newest venture due to the town’s natural charm and mountain views from the brewery’s patio area. AFOG offers a wide range of classic selections, plus specialty brews like “Goatmeal” (oatmeal) stout and hard seltzer.
- The Winery at Kindred Pointe in Mount Jackson will be premiering KP Spirits Distillery in 2025. Inspired by a Prohibition-era moonshiner on the run from revenuers, this new line of spirits is handcrafted in the Shenandoah Valley.
Southwest Virginia – Blue Ridge Highlands and Heart of Appalachia
- The French Magnolia opened in November 2024 in Bristol, combining Southern charm with French influences. At the hands of Chef Missy, the culinary brand of French Magnolia focuses on elevated food and wine experiences that bring the rustic elegance of the French countryside to life in Southwest Virginia.
- The Conery opened at Thee Draper Village in September 2024, serving up old-fashioned ice cream and coffee floats in Pulaski County.
