Girlfriends’ Getaways: Restorative Retreats for Spring

March 24, 2026

Wellness travel has moved well beyond the spa weekend. This spring, it’s about slowing down in intentional ways—time outdoors, long conversations, and experiences that feel both grounding and a little indulgent. Across Virginia, a handful of retreats offer just that, each with its own luxurious twist.

Balian Springs Spa

Balian Springs Spa

Balian Springs Spa is a four-story wellness facility located near Old Town Alexandria, which combines spa treatments with social gathering spaces. Day passes provide access to most facilities, with additional services such as massages and facials available.

Amenities include cold plunges, cryotherapy, Himalayan salt rooms, and pools, and on-site dining options feature wellness-oriented menus. A mocktail bar serves CBD and Adaptogen mocktails, while a full-service bar with alcoholic drinks is located on the top floor near the rooftop pool.

Fort Lewis Lodge

Set on a private 3,300-acre mountain farm, Fort Lewis Lodge offers a peaceful retreat for friend groups looking to unplug. Activities include a wood-fired sauna, private river access, miles of walking trails, and an on-site farm with chickens, pigs, and cows that guests can interact with.

Meals are a focal point and served communally, featuring seasonal, garden-driven fare, and after dark, the lack of light pollution makes stargazing feel like an event in itself. Accommodations range from lodge rooms to secluded cabins and cottages ideal for group stays.

The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa

The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa, America’s oldest resort, underwent an extensive renovation of more than $170 million to update accommodations and offerings. The resort’s historic Warm Springs Pools allow guests to soak and relax in healing waters, and for more reinvigorating treatments, they can book services at the adults-only spa and wellness facility.

A highlight of the Homestead’s new offerings is the Virginia Wine Experience, with curated flights of some of Virginia’s best wines. Additional group-friendly programming includes movie screenings and property-wide hikes.

Eupepsia Wellness Resort

For a more structured reset, Eupepsia Wellness Resort takes a programmatic approach, with multi-day stays built around specific goals like Healthy Detox, Weight Management, and Balance & Longevity. Daily programming includes nature walks, fitness classes, and spa treatments.

Even meals feel intentional at Eupepsia, drawing on organic ingredients grown on-site, while experiences like cacao tastings in the resort’s chocolate lab add a layer of curiosity to the usual wellness itinerary.
